Who?
Örnsköldsvik is a vibrant community in the heart of the High Coast region of northern Sweden with over 56,000 residents. The area is known for its strong business sector, active community life, and close access to nature, offering opportunities for both career growth and outdoor living.
What?
This project was a collaboration with
Targa Filmproduktion, where Örnsköldsviks Kommuns' IT department wanted to create an informational video encouraging students and staff to restart their laptops regularly and let them rest when not in use.
I was provided with a simple script outlining the different scenes, and my role was to develop a visual style suited for the broad target group, produce all visual content and animate the video. Targa Filmproduktion then took over the project to finalize with audio production and sound design.
How?
The client wanted a colorful, “cartoony” style for the video and used my own mascot as a visual reference, aiming for a style that felt playful without becoming overly childish or cute. This gave me a great deal of creative freedom in shaping the overall direction, and I drew inspiration from animated series that greatly influence my personal work, such as The Great North, Solar Opposites, Bob’s Burgers, and Big Mouth. I took the opportunity to fully lean into a style I have long wanted to work with, developing a visual approach that is rarely seen in traditional explainer videos, with clear inspiration drawn from animated tv-shows.
Throughout the film, subtle references to well-known landmarks in Örnsköldsvik can be seen, alongside their IT-departments' more muted color palette, which was integrated into smaller details within the environments.
For the final look I added some grain and scattered up the outlines, giving the sharp vectors a more hand-made, and TV-inspired finish.
